Summer entertaining starts with Memorial Day Weekend!

@DavesCoffeeCo in Watch Hill, RI
The recent weather has us thinking about the upcoming summer season.   Memorial Day Weekend was a week earlier this year so we got an extra week to get ready for a busy summer of relaxing and entertaining – both inside and out.  First up - prepare the guest room for your summer visitors.

We were reminiscing how our moms’ and grandmothers’ used to have two sets of curtains – one for the colder season and the other for the warmer months.  When the curtains were being changed, the windows would get a thorough cleaning, too. The screens even got hosed down!  At the same time, all the winter blankets and comforters were either aired out on a cool crisp Spring day or laundered for the fall. We even recall “summer blankets and sheets”!  Now is the perfect time to spruce up the guest room with fresh bed linens, and, yes, be daring with color – that’s what summer is all about.

Wendy Brown Fine Linens, located in Wayland Square on Providence’s East Side, is one of our favorite places for fine bed linens. A new coverlet, pillows, shams, and sheets will change the look and ambiance of a guest room and make your family and friends feel welcome and special.

They WILL remember sleeping on exquisite linens.

Another way to ready the guest room is to make sure you have ample lighting, a functional bedside table, and a comfortable reading chair. Light blocking shades are a must have; an upholstered headboard can be an interesting touch or just a blitz of color.

ADI is ready to help you ready your guest room for summer entertaining or update your bedroom.  Oh, and don’t forget to place some of our favorite magazines on the bedside table – House Beautiful, Veranda, and Architectural Digest. We hope you make memories this Summer after readying your guest room.

As always, remember to follow us on Twitter @ADIinteriors and "Like" our page on Facebook!

XOXO,

Lisa and Susan

Home Sweet Home

Small Spaces and Interesting New Places

The word “home” has many meanings and can be used as a noun, verb, adverb or adjective.  It means something to everyone  -  it’s where one lives, a family living together as a unit, a familiar place, where you are from, or just being relaxed and comfortable. ADI Style is all about “home” – whether you have a bungalow, a turn of the century “this old house”, a second home or even just a reading nook – we will listen to how you use your home and help make it your own.

Check out the exhibit Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers at Museum of The City of New York , located at 1220 Fifth Avenue at 130rd Street. The exhibit, which runs through September 13, 2013, presents an array of innovative solutions for the NYC’s housing needs. The exhibit has a 325 square foot apartment on display.

Also, right in ADI’s own backyard, the Arcade, America’s oldest indoor mall, is undergoing a transformation.

The new microlofts in the Arcade, along with shops and restaurants, will hopefully bring energy and excitement  to downtown Providence .

Check out the article in The Providence Journal (May 8, 2013). Keep ADI in mind if you are thinking of downsizing or adding a tranquil city apartment to your life.

At the heart of the home is mom!  Remember  - Mother’s Day is  Sunday, May 12. Treat her to lunch at The Grange, 166 Broadway in Providence and then take in The Sleeping Beauty, being performed by Festival Ballet Providence,  at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium.

Neither will disappoint! And of course, after the show take her to your beautiful home for a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

Until next time, enjoy your home!

ADI Loves Boston

Spring is really here – despite the recent cooler temperatures – and that means lighter colors and pastels. We’ve been spending time at the Boston Design Center and want to share some of our new favorite things!

At Duralee, we love the lines of the Columbia sofa, which is also available as a sectional. Neutral fabrics on the sofa allow you to play with color in accent pillows and accessories.

Kravet’s Petite Allegro chair offers several design options (different cushions, legs, and arms) and is also well suited in neutral fabrics.

Jonathan Adler, whose goal is to bring style, craft, and joy to your life, now has a line of fabrics with Kravet. Check out two of our favorites below and if possible check out the recent article in the Providence Journal about Adler’s designs!

Restoration Hardware has opened a new store in downtown Boston that we plan to visit soon (check out the story in The Boston Business Journal). It’s a fantastic resource for lighting, hardware, and accessories.

When we’re in Boston we often lunch at the Yankee Lobster Company at 300 Northern Avenue – excellent lobster rolls in a casual setting.  We’re excited to try Pennypacker’s, a food truck located on Tide Street in the Marine Industrial Park in South Boston.  Thank you to our friends at The Martin Group for this recommendation.

Until next time, our thoughts are with Boston as the city gets back to normal.

Spring has sprung in New England!

A couple of days in the seventies has put a spring in everyone's step, yard work is in full swing, and not a table is to be found at an outdoor cafe. Spring flowers are in full bloom so that means it's time to think about filling planters for patios, back steps, and decks.  We love these weathered cast stone planters at Restoration Hardware.

Indoor/outdoor rugs can brighten your porch or spruce up your back door. Take a peek at this diamond patterned one from Dash & Albert - it comes in 10 other colors and multiple sizes.

Outside dining and entertaining is the best part of warmer weather.  The Bristol teak dining table from Gloster is a winner for any patio or porch. The Bristol includes square, rectangular, round, and extending tables in a variety of sizes. The Solana sling dining chair comes with or without arms.
Nothing says warm weather like stripes.  We love the indoor/outdoor fabrics from Perennials – the colors are amazing and come in many different combinations.  We couldn’t pick a favorite so we are sharing these three from their Rowdy Stripe Collection.

The warmer weather is here to stay - take a walk, enjoy the the flowering trees, and plan your outdoor living spaces!

Spring Green

It’s Spring at ADI!  Here’s what’s new:

Green is the hot design color for 2013 so ADI is right in style with our trademark green.

  • ADI now accepts credit cards!  This will allow us to keep your project on track.  We will just need to swipe your credit card with the Square technology.  How’s that for more green?

  • Speaking of green, we love Spring asparagus and baby kale.  Check out the baby kale at Whole Foods –  it has great texture, tastes amazing, and you can put it in everything from salads to soups.

  • We love all the Spring colors that we’re seeing at the Boston Design Center.  In particular, we are very impressed with how indoor/outdoor fabrics, furniture, and rugs are evolving – remember, you can even use these inside.

  • We co-chaired “A Wild Affair” at Roger Williams Park Zoo back in October.  All funds raised supported the zoo’s education fund. Like our photo from that night?

Let us help you embrace the ADI Style. And, keep thinking Spring!

Before & After

Nothing makes us happier than totally transforming a space...

This screened porch in Southern RI needed a facelift to provide good outdoor living and dining (sans mosquitos) for our clients. The fantastic double terrace and landscape addition which took place last winter was the incentive to bring the protected outdoor space up to the same standard. The blue painted floor was without a doubt the most transformative element and completely enhanced the clients old white wicker - which we love - along with the Perennials indoor/outdoor fabrics.
